Simon Crawford-Phillips
is developing an unusually diverse career as soloist, chamber musician, song accompanist and conductor. A Masters Degree and a Fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama followed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He studied subsequently with Ferenc Rados

Recent concerto performances have included Beethoven, Mozart, Shostakovich, Schumann and Stravinsky with orchestras such as ViVA, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and the Academy of St.Martin in the fields and December 2007 saw his concerto debut in Japan with the NHK Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alan Gilbert and in 2008 he has performed with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Simon frequently works with singers such as Emma Bell, Measha Brueggergosman, Alice Coote, Sarah Fox, James Gilchrist, Andrew Kennedy and Robert Murray, and instrumentalists Emily Beynon, Colin Currie, Martin Frost, Richard Hosford, Pekka Kuusisto, Lawrence Power, Christian Poltera, and Roger Tapping. He also appears regularly as a guest with the Nash Ensemble, ECO chamber ensemble, Leopold String Trio and Dante String Quartet and the Badke Quartet.

Simon is a founding member of the Kungsbacka Piano Trio.

In 2001 Simon made his BBC Proms debut with his piano duo partner Philip Moore and in 2004 the Duo received a Borletti-Buitoni Fellowship and were appointed Steinway Artists.

With the duo he has performed a new Concerto for two pianos by the German composer Detlev Glanert, commissioned for the Duo and premiered, to great critical acclaim, in March 2008.

A performer at many of the European festivals (Bath, City of London, Cheltenham, Dubrovnik, Edinburgh, Mecklenburg, Montpelier, Lofoten, Obertsdorf, Oslo, Schwetzinger, Spoleto, Schleswig-Holstein and Verbier), Simon has also been invited to the Open Chamber Music Sessions at Prussia Cove in Cornwall.

Simon has played at Vid Djupid Festival (Iceland) and has toured Australia with the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto.

In 2009  Simon has performed in the UK, Italy, Washington DC and in August he returned for several appearances at BBC Proms.

This season has included concerts in China with Alison Balsom and collaborations with the Cremona and Barbirolli String Quartets in the UK and with Elias String Quartet in the UK and Sweden and a recital in New York.


Simon is also co-director of the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival held every January.

In addition to radio and television broadcasts in Europe, Australia and Japan he has also recorded for the BIS, Deux-Elles, Hyperion, Harmonia Mundi, Naxos and Signum CD labels. Further recordings are planned for Hyperion and Naxos.

In May 2003, Simon was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. He holds teaching positions at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Academy of Music and the Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama.
